Back in the Backpacks Again 3

packHappy Back-to-School to you all!

Well, to all you moms anyway.

Well, to all you moms who will do a double heel click with me tomorrow morning when the school bus drives away with our children.

If you’re one of those moms who’s all bummed out when school starts, I’m sorry. We’ll never be close.

In celebration of the return to schedule, budget, bedtimes, and semi-nutritional eating, I’ve reworded a classic western ditty to sing along to.

To the tune of “Back in the Saddle Again,” sing with a Gene Autry accent:

I’m back in the backpacks again,
Out where friends aren’t just FB friends.
Where the school children feed,
On First-Lady-governed-weeds.
Back in the backpacks again.

Ridin’ the bus once more,
Totin’ MP3s and iphone4s.
And there’s bedtime set at night,
Though it’s always such a fight.
Back in the backpacks again.

Whoopi-ty-aye-oh!
Rockin’ to and fro.
Back in the backpacks again.
Whoopi-ty-aye-yay!
I go my way.
Back in the backpacks again!

Hey, Kari! You’ve always been so good at re-working song lyrics to fit any situation, and your ‘Back in the Saddle’ made me laugh. (Because WHO – under the age of 70 – even knows that song?? Except that I do, and somehow you do, too.)

I remember a cover you wrote in junior high when cheerleading moms were causing lots of drama.

The song was ‘I’m Dreaming of a Mean Mommy’ to the tune of

‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.’ And sometimes when I hear White Christmas… I hear your 1987 version.

That’s so funny you remember that! Do you also remember our tribute to LaMar in 9th grade choir to the tune of “Matchmaker?” Good times.

    Um…. of COURSE I do.

(To the tune of Matchmaker) It goes a little something like this….

LaMar, O LaMar please give me an ‘N.’
    I’ll be your friend.
    Give me an ‘N.’

For Mama, make it a U…
For Papa, make it C plusses, too.
For me, well… I wouldn’t holler if I could sing on KUTR with YOU!!
